Brody Maguire commits to RPI
The '04 defensemen out of the AJHL will add defensive strength to the blueline.
Earlier this month, RPI picked up another recruit from the Alberta Junior Hockey League: defenseman Brody Maguire. It’s a league that the coaching staff have been focusing on recently - he will become the fourth ‘04/’05 commitment out of Alberta from the past couple of months joining Tapper, Oakenfold, and Heinrich.
Maguire profiles more as a defensive defenseman, but recent scouting reports have suggested that the more attacking side of his game is starting to develop quite nicely as well.
Earlier this year, Neutral Zone scouts described him as “a good size defenseman who was solid defensively and occasionally jumped into the rush.” And while they cited that his transition play was slow at times, once he got time and space in the offensive zone, his “slap shot is excellent, heavy, and accurate” and “he sends excellent saucer passes all over the ice.”
With guys like Smolinksi and Ardanaz set to deputize as the more offensive-minded blueliners in the coming years, bringing in a guy who can set a high floor defensively creates some much-needed balance. Especially when you consider that neither Hallbauer nor Klee will be on the roster come the 2024-25 season.
We are projecting Brody to enroll two years down the line in the fall of 2024. That gives another season and a half of development in junior hockey before making the move to Troy. Again, congratulations to Brody and his family!
