A few weeks ago, RPI picked up another commitment from an AJHL player when Nathan Sullivan chose the Engineers. Sullivan is a big left wing listed at 6’3” and 202 LBs. He has played for the Camrose Kodiaks for the past two seasons. This season, he played with another future Engineer in Lucas Lemieux. Sullivan led the team in points per game with his 13 goals, 16 assists and 29 points in 29 games. The reason he only played 29 games was due to an injury midway through the season. He came back and was immediately their best player the rest of the season.
Sullivan is a great power forward who is great with the puck on his stick. He uses his length and strength to shield the puck from defenders and keep it on his stick. In one Neutral Zone evaluation, they even say he “had the puck seemingly glued to his stick tonight as he refused to give it up unless it was on his terms.” Sullivan is also a very good passer, and he was a key component on Camrose’s power play as a rover because of his skill with the puck combined with that passing ability. He’s smart and has a knack to get to open areas on the ice. His one-timer is seen as a real weapon too as he “has a hard accurate one timer that always finds the net.” Sullivan has a lot of quality offensive tools. His main weakness, which he will look to improve in Troy, is his skating and speed. That’s pretty normal for a player as young and big as he is. I don’t expect it to hold him back.
Based on Camrose’s press release about his commitment, I expect Sullivan to enroll at RPI this fall. With his youth, I think it will take him a bit of time to find his footing at RPI. Once he adjusts to the college game though, I think he can have a big impact. His ceiling is really high, and he can definitely be a big contributor down the line. Congratulations to Nathan and his family!
