Tomorrow, RPI re-starts its tough out of conference schedule with a trip to Durham, New Hampshire to take on the UNH Wildcats. UNH is currently 13th in the pairwise, and they’ll be the 4th top 15 team that RPI has gone on the road to face.
UNH Team Outlook
UNH is a team that’s been mostly driven by their offense thus far this season. They’re averaging 3.25 goals per game, and the power play is clicking at 22.2%. One interesting thing about their offense is that they don’t actually generate a ton of shots. However, they make them count. They only average 28.8 shots on goal per game, but they turn that into 16 scoring chances per game and 3.1 xG per game. Both of those are pretty good marks especially with the lack of shots on net.
The defense is fairly average. They allow 2.75 goals against per game with some pretty good goaltending. They allow 15 scoring chances and 3 xG per game, but the actual results have been better than that obviously.
Biggest Threats
UNH is led by #36 Ryan Conmy (W). He has 15 points in 12 games as a freshman after being drafted last summer by the Kings. He’s dangerous with the puck on his stick.
Sophomore #29 Cy LeClerc (C) is UNH’s other player with more than a point per game. He has 14 points in 12 games after putting up 20 points as a freshman. He and Conmy have been a deadly duo on the top line.
Lastly, senior goaltender #37 Jakob Hellsten (G) has taken over the starting job and has a 0.918 SV% in 7 starts this year. He has given UNH stability in net with Sophomore Tyler Muszelik’s struggles.
Sorry for the shorter preview today. It was a busy week. Let’s Go Red!
